Project Description
S661, S662, S663
SATA-II — NAND Flash Memory Solid State Disk (SSD) Controller
S66x is a series of SATA l/ll Interface Solid State Drive (SSD) controllers. It provides a single chip solution to manufacture SSD units by NAND flash memory chips.
S66x was designed with SageMicro’s distinguishing multi-core architecture. While a dedicated CPU processing SATA protocol, five RISC CPUs were embedded to manage flash memories. Each RISC CPU and its memory chips can be regarded as a virtual disk, in which there are two flash memory buses (or so called “channels”). From top view, the whole SSD works as an intrinsic RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) Level 0 micro-system when data distribution is configured as “striping” mode. The multi-core architecture brings more advantages, such as multi-partition function, isolated flash channels, etc.
